![]() Citizens of Comanche County are blessed to live in a rural area, but we are fortunate to have an exceptional medical facility that serves Comanche County and surrounding areas. A group of concerned individuals is dedicated to support this medical facility with funding and service. Comanche County Medical Center Healthcare Volunteers is an organization that was created to promote and to advance the welfare of CCMC. Members feel that a local medical facility is important to all citizens of Comanche County and surrounding areas. Membership is open to any interested person who wants to participate in the activities and fundraising projects designed to benefit CCMC. Healthcare Volunteers would like to thank those who have supported our projects to raise funds to aid CCMC. All money that is raised is used to purchase items that are needed to aid healthcare professionals and patients. Needs of different departments are considered. In the past year, funds have been spent to purchase diverse items such as dishes for the dietary department, coat racks for the clinic and a SCIFIT bike for cardiac rehab. GPS devices were also provided for each ambulance so that finding the location of those in need will be easier. A commercial blender was acquired for kitchen use. Binders for nursing charts, stretchers for ER and OR and software for bookkeeping were purchased. Money was also provided for games for swing bed patients. Furniture was bought for the Social Services office. Healthcare Volunteers were glad to be able to help meet various departmental and patient needs of CCMC. In addition to funding, members have donated approximately 3,900 hours of volunteer service during the past year. A major project of CCMC Healthcare Volunteers has been the memorial fountain that has added much beauty to the east entrance of the hospital. Those who wish to honor loved ones are urged to consider purchasing a brick to serve as a lasting memorial. Information about the memorial/honorary bricks can be obtained from any healthcare volunteer. CCMC Healthcare Volunteers look forward to one of the biggest fundraisers of the year on April 12. The Tenth Annual Hospital Charity Golf Tournament will be held on that day at PAR Country Club. The tournament is sponsored by the CCMC Healthcare Volunteers and the money earned from the tournament will enable the organization to fund projects throughout the year. The tournament will be a three-person scramble, and cash prizes will be paid for each flight. Hole in One prizes include a New Car (Bayer Motor), $10,000 Ladies’ Hole in One, Golf Vacation, Golf Clubs, and a 3-Day Cruise. All golfers are encouraged to participate. Playing in the Tenth Annual Hospital Charity Golf Tournament is a great way to have fun as well as a great way to support our hospital. For information about the golf tournament, contact Sandra Storey (254-879-4900) or Pat Brownlee (254-893-3649). |

CCMC Volunteer of the Month Sandra Storey was named May’s “Volunteer of the Month” by the CCMC Healthcare Volunteers at their recent meeting.
Sandra attended her first volunteer meeting in November, and hit the ground running! For the hospital, she headed up the annual “12 Days of Christmas” feast that is a fun time for hospital employees. She also coordinated an Angel Tree for less fortunate families, which featured donations from all departments and was a huge success. In January, the volunteers asked Sandra to serve as Liaison between them and the hospital, which she gladly accepted. In her words: “Little did I know they were setting me up for a big adventure………the 10th Annual Golf Tournament!” It is a big job to keep up with all sponsors, entries, and all other paper work involved with the tournament, and she did a great job. As soon as that was over, Sandra volunteered to be captain for a Relay for Life Cancer Society team, made up of hospital employees and volunteers. For three weeks, she sold popcorn and raffle tickets for a drawing, which raised over $800 to be contributed to the Relay for Life program. She also signed up enough people for 4 teams to participate in the Relay for Life! When not volunteering for the hospital you can find Sandra at the ball park watching the kids playing softball or baseball. She also enjoys cross stitching and reading in her spare time. In conclusion, Sandra says, “What great challenges I have been asked to do by the volunteers. I am so excited about helping with the volunteers and all the adventures they trust me to help them with. It is a great honor to be involved with the CCMC Healthcare Volunteers.” It’s our honor, too, Sandra, and we thank you so very much. P.S. Sandra will also be working with volunteers at the Health Fair, May 15, at CCMC. |

Comanche County Medical Center Healthcare Volunteers want to thank all businesses and individuals who support the many projects we do. It was recently decided that Annual Membership Dues would be cancelled—due to the fact that all have given so much to us in the past. Our Membership Drive is always open. We welcome anyone who can give a little—or as much time as they wish. Various members serve at both Fitness Centers, Hospital, Clinic, and the Whitestone. Every hour donated is figured in dollar amount (minimum wage) and counted as saved wages for the above named entities. There is no obligation to attend meetings. Volunteers names will be printed in the Yearbook. For more membership information: please contact any member—or call Pat Brownlee at 254-893-3649. |
